At just 18 years old, Sebastian Norman has a lot of stories to tell. Like being at the MLB’s High School Home Run Derby.
“They put us in the same hotel as the MLB stars,” the Glendale senior said. “Aaron Judge walked in the elevator with us and I was just like, holy crap. He just, like, towered over all of us.”
Or stories about coming up big in the playoffs.
“Last year in the Willard district championship, it was [scoreless],” Sebastian said. “One runner was on and I hit a home run and that was that was a great feeling.”
He also has a tale from way back when.
“Growing up, my grandpa was a big fan of sports,” Sebastian said. “I give him the credit for showing me baseball…We would just be in the backyard for hours and he would throw me these little acorns.”
All these experiences and more, while the Oklahoma state commit keeps a near 4.0 GPA.
“I think it’s a good thing to have because baseball is not guaranteed,” Sebastian said.
Maintaining the standard he has set for himself in all aspects, even as he anticipates being a top 200 prospect in the MLB draft.
“Growing up, you would just only dream about it and just like think about it constantly,” Sebastian said. “But now that it’s becoming somewhat of a reality it’s definitely a cool feeling. I try not to let it get to me too much because at the end of the day it’s just a game and I don’t want to change.”
And no matter the outcome this summer, Sebastian Norman will always be himself , just with more stories to tell.
“He still goes out and works hard every day in practice and performs in games and gives it all,” said Glendale head baseball coach Jim Julian. “He doesn’t let anything like that spotlight wise affect who he is and how he plays.”
