ST. LOUIS – Missouri State softball’s Chloe Merced has been named Missouri Valley Conference Player of the Week, the league announced today.
Across a 3-1 week for the Bears, Merced batted .500 (5-for-10) with six RBI, four runs scored, two home runs, a double and a walk. She also slugged 1.200 with a .545 on-base percentage, and was perfect in the field. Merced tied her career high with two different three-RBI performances on the week.
In Wednesday’s midweek win over Kansas City, Merced went 2-for-3 with 3 RBI after knocking a solo homer and a two-RBI single. She also scored two runs in the victory. To begin the series against Murray State, the senior went 1-for-2 with a run scored. Then, in a doubleheader against the Racers, Merced went 1-for-3 with a three-run home run in the first game followed by a 1-for-2 performance that featured a double in the series finale.
This marks the first MVC weekly honor of her career. Merced was a second-team all-MVC selection a season ago.
The Bears hit the road on Wednesday, April 2 for a midweek matchup at Missouri (5:00 p.m.), before returning home to host MVC foe Northern Iowa this weekend (April 4-6).
