For a moment, it looked like Class 3 discus state champion favorite Terren Williams from Lamar might not even make finals.
After fouling on his first two throws, he needed not only a throw in the zone but also one good enough to earn a spot in the finals.

“I was really nervous,” Williams said. “I just wanted to get it back inbounds. I was listening to my coach. He was saying stay back on it and get it through.”
Williams did just that and not only qualified for finals, but went from no mark to the No. 1 mark at 166’3.
“After I saw it land, I was so happy. I made it finals, and I was in first place. That set the tone for the rest of throws,” Williams said.
That throw stood up throughout the rest of the competition allowing Williams to go into his final throw with a win already secured.

“After that throw it took the stress off of me and allowed me to relax and start throwing again,” Williams said.
Already a state champion, Williams added almost two feet on his final throw to make his winning mark 166’3.
Teammate Logan Martin placed fifth in the event with a 154’5.
