Parkview soccer is looking to bounce back from a winless 2024 campaign with over half the starting lineup returning.
The defense will be source of strength and leadership headed by junior defenders Ethan Fernandez, August Tonarely and Matias Carcamp according to head coach Shelby Stewart.
Stewart on Fernandez: “Ethan Fernandez is a great leader in the way he represents our team off and on the field. One of the best athletes at Parkview and works hard from start to finish. We are excited to see him take a more leadership role this season.”
Stewart on Tonarely: “He is joining us after taking a year off. We liked what we saw this summer and think he can contribute right away. He has good knowledge of the game and the ability to lead through his competitive drive.”
Stewart on Carcamo: “Matias Carcamo has great ability to lead by example and connect with all players on the team. Hard work ethic and the desire to want the team to perform well.”
Freshman Xander Barber will join the junior trio at defender along with some players fighting for paying time.
Look for Isac Bravo (junior), Sergio Soto (senior) and Done Martino (sophomore) in the midfield.
Senior Jefry Molina will be up top at forward.
“Jefry Molina has great foot-skill accompanied with some speed,” Stewart said. “We will look for him to facilitate our offense and create opportunities for others.”
The Vikings will bring athleticism and soccer knowledge to the field this season but will need to work on chemistry with new players in new places.
“(We have) athleticism (and a) better knowledge of the game this season with more club players (along with a) deeper bench. Diverse population with the ability to bring various learning styles and skills to the game,” Stewart said. “We have a lot of new pieces so finding chemistry will be key for us early on.
Parkview opens the regular season on Sept. 2 at home against Logan-Rogersville.
“(I expect us) to compete in every game we play, increase our conference standing finish, and show growth throughout the season,” Stewart said.
