SBU falls to No. 1 Northwest Missouri State 75-54

BOLIVAR, Mo. – The Southwest Baptist University men’s basketball team fell to #1 Northwest Missouri on Saturday 75-54. With the loss SBU drops to 9-7 (2-5 MIAA).

Southwest Baptist and Northwest Missouri played tight to open up the contest, and a Kai Woodfall three with 15:42 left in the first half gave SBU a 7-5 lead. Cartier Dean then hit another three, extending the SBU lead to 10-5, but a 6-0 Northwest Missouri run put SBU down 11-10. Woodfall connected on his second three of the game with 13:01 left in the half to give Southwest Baptist a 13-10 lead. After baskets from both teams, Northwest Missouri slowly built their lead. A Kalehl Brown jumper halted a 10-0 run by Northwest Missouri, but Southwest Baptist would eventually head into the break trailing 41-24.

The Bearcats opened up the second half with a layup from Logan Hovey, but Northwest Missouri continued to build on their lead. Northwest Missouri and Southwest Baptist would play even for the remainder of the half, but Southwest Baptist would eventually fall 75-54.

Cartier Dean had a career high 18 points while Kalehl Brown added 10 points in the loss. As a team SBU shot 40.5% from the floor, 26.3% from beyond the arc, and 60.0% from the line.

Southwest Baptist will return to action on Thursday, January 19 when they travel to Lindenwood. Tip-off is set for 7:30 p.m. from St. Charles, Missouri.
