Staley’s hot-shooting was too much for Kickapoo in a 73-42 loss for the Chiefs to the Falcons in the consolation semifinals of the Bass Pro Tournament of Champions.
Staley, the No. 1 ranked team in Class 6 in Missouri, shot 81% from the field in the game. Many of the Falcons’ scoring opportunities came right at the basket with Staley going 14-for-16 on layups and 3-for-3 on dunks in the game.
“For them to shoot 30-for-37 from the field, it’s not us,” Kickapoo head coach Mitch McHenry said. “We played Sunrise and we held them to a better defensive field goal percentage than Staley tonight and Sunrise is the No. 4 team in the nation.”

The Falcons were 14-for-19 (74%) from the field in the first half and 16-for-18 (89%) from the field in the second half.
“What was frustrating the second half is we would get some good offensive possessions and share the ball, and we just couldn’t get anything going because we didn’t have fight on the defensive end,” McHenry said.
Kyan Evans shot a perfect 9-for-9 from the field including 5-for-5 from the field on his way to a game-high 23 points for Staley. Cameron Manyawu was 9-for-11 on his way to 18 points for Staley. Larry Parker gave the Falcons a third player in double figures with 10.

Kickapoo was led by Trae Oetting’s 15 points. Brayden Shorter (14 points) and Harrison Doennig (10 points) also scored in double figures.
“We’re disappointed with how that just played out, but I am excited that we get another opportunity Saturday to compete and do things more consistent and in the right way. I think we are going to see a different team tomorrow than what we just saw compete in the last four quarters just now.”
Kickapoo will face Bartlett (TN) in the seventh place game at 2:30 pm in the seventh place game of the Bass Pro Tournament of Champions. Staley will play St. Rita (Ill.) for fifth place.
