The Marshfield girls and Lamar boys won the Big 8 conference track meet team championships on Tuesday night at Monett. Marshfield more than doubled up runner-up Cassville with 153.5 points to Cassville’s 71. Lamar had a tighter battle beating out Marshfield by 22 points with 133 total points.

Marshfield dominates girls team race

The Marshfield dominance was evident all over, but maybe nowhere quite as much as the sprints. Emma Dinkins and Cassie Fishel each finished first and second in the 100- and 200-metre dashes. Dinkins won the 100 in a time of 12.85 while Fishel took the 200 in 26.32.

Marshfield’s sprint relays cruised to victory as well. The 400-meter relay ran a 49.70 to win by over two seconds. The 800-meter relay went 1:48.09 to win by more than three seconds.

In the field, Marshfield claimed four individual gold medals. Grace Kimrey (high jump – 5’1.75) and Abigail McBride (triple jump – 34’10.5) won in the jumps. Lauren Luebbert (javelin – 126’5) and Adyson Clark (shot put – 35’10) won in the throws.

Aurora had the second-most individual champions with three. All three were won by sophomore Makena Hall. She won the 100-meter hurdles (16.14), long jump (17’2.25) and pole vault (9’5.75).

Cassville also brought home first place finishes with Aaliyah Franklin winning the discus with a throw of 94’9 for the lone individual gold medal. The Wildcats swept the 1600-meter (4:18.53) and the 3200-meter relays (10:22.55).

Hollister’s Katherine Schaefer battled Lamar’s Kiersten Potter for the honor of the Big 8’s top distance runner. Schaefer won the 800 (2:27.61) and 1600 (5:28.86) while Potter beat Schaefer in the last race of the night taking the 3200-meter in a time of 12:06.03.
