Three Drury Panthers land All-GLVC baseball honors

MARION, Ill.—  Drury baseball had three players named to the All-Great Lakes Valley Conference as the league announced their award winners prior to the start of the GLVC Tournament in Marion, Illinois, on Wednesday. Starting pitcher Cody Bahl was a First Team All-GLVC selection, while Jack Jones was named to the Second Team as a starting pitcher, and relief pitcher Wes Laaker was also named a Second Team All-GLVC selection.

Cody Bahl, a left-hander from Lee’s Summit, Missouri, is 6-2 with a 2.77 earned run average in 11 games, all starts. His ERA ranks second in the GLVC, and he is tied for sixth in the conference in wins. Bahl has pitched 68.1 innings and struck out 58 while allowing 30 walks. He owns a career record of 18-4 with the Panthers. The First Team All-GLVC is the first such honor in Bahl’s career.

Jack Jones was a Second Team All-GLVC selection and ended the regular season 6-3 with a 3.27 ERA in 12 appearances and 10 starts. The junior from Tulsa, Oklahoma, has gone 52.1 innings with 27 walks and 46 strikeouts. Jones is fifth in the GLVC in earned run average and also tied for sixth in wins. He was the GLVC Pitcher of the Week for March 20-26 after he picked up a win over Missouri S&T and held the Miners to two hits and no earned runs through six innings, while striking out seven. It was part of a 12.2 inning streak where he did not allow an earned run.

Reliever Wesley Laaker also received Second Team All-GLVC honors. Laaker has 15 appearances and is 2-0 with a 2.79 ERA. In 29 innings, he has struck out 27 while only walking nine. The all-conference award is the first in the career of the Godfrey, Illinois, native.

The Panthers are 27-23 and went 17-15 in the GLVC regular season. They open play in the GLVC Tournament on Thursday as the sixth seed and will take on third-seeded Maryville at 12:30 pm at Mountain Dew Park in Marion, Illinois.
