ST. LOUIS – Lacy Stokes of Missouri State women’s basketball has been named the Missouri Valley Conference Newcomer of the Week for her performance against Tulane, the league announced today (Dec. 4).
Stokes logged her fourth double-figure scoring performance in five game on the season as she helped lead Missouri State to a 10-point victory over Tulane on Friday. The Mount Vernon, Mo., native logged 12 points and set season-highs in rebounds (5), assists (6) and three-point field goals (3) against the Green Wave.
She provided a spark for the Lady Bears on Friday night at Great Southern Bank Arena, knocking down back-to-back triples in the first quarter to jumpstart an MSU run that would propel the Lady Bears to a lead that they would never hand back to Tulane.
The first-year Lady Bear ranks 7th in the MVC in assist-to-turnover ratio, 8th in assists per game (4.2), and 9th in steals per game (2.0). She has led the Lady Bears in assists five times and in steals three times this season. Stokes is averaging 11.4 points, 3.0 rebounds and 4.2 assists per game this season.
This marks the first weekly honor of Stokes’ career.
