No. 5 seed Osceola started the Class 2 District 13 girls basketball tournament off with a 46-40 upset of No. 4 seed Weaubleau. No. 3 seed Ash Grove beat No. 6 seed Lakeland 55-34.
Osceola and Weaubleau matched each other through the first half sitting tied at 11 after one quarter and 18 at the half. In the second half, Osceola’s Laney Uchtman took over by scoring 20 of her game-high 27 points. Uchtman accounted for all but eight of Osceola’s second-half points.
Jaylee Daggett (15 points) and Sutton Mitchell (11 points) were the top scorers for Weaubleau.
In the second quarterfinal, Ash Grove was in control throughout on the way to a 55-34 win over Lakeland. Bristol Lathrop scored 19 points to lead Ash Grove and all scorers.
Osceola will face top-seeded Skyline at 6 pm on Wednesday in the semifinal round. Skyline, which has won district titles in nine of the past 11 years, is the No. 1 ranked team in Class 2 according to the coaches poll. In the 7:30 semifinal, Ash Grove will play Marion C. Early.
