Dadeville pulled off one of the area’s biggest upsets in the quarterfinal round of the district girls basketball tournaments while Fair Play and Lockwood defended their higher seeds.
No. 4 Fair Play opened the tournament with a 40-33 win over Everton. The Hornets didn’t have any players score in double figures, but used the balance of six different players scoring between four and nine points. Everton’s Olivia Sartin led all scorers with 14 points.
No. 2 seed Lockwood was dominant in the middle two quarters on the way to a 48-23 win over Greenfield. Greenfield carried an 8-7 lead after one quarter. From there, Lockwood’s defense was the story holding Greenfield to two total points in the second and third quarters combined. Lockwood outscored Greenfield 23-2 in those two quarters. Adrien Neill led Lockwood and all scorers with 17 points.
No. 6 seed Dadeville needed overtime, but the Bearcats were able to outscore No. 3 seed Humansville 6-2 in the final quarter to win 42-38 in the quarterfinal round. Dadeville trailed 13-9 after one quarter and 15-12 at the half. The Bearcats outscored Dadeville 14-9 in the third quarter to turn the three-point halftime deficit into a two-point lead heading into the fourth quarter. Humansville forced overtime with a 12-10 advantage in the fourth quarter before Dadeville clinched the game in overtime.
Fair Play advances to face top-seeded Walnut Grove at 5:30 pm on Wednesday in the semifinal round. Walnut Grove has won district titles in 12Â of the past 13 years. Lockwood and Dadeville will play in the late semifinal at 7 pm.
