St. LOUIS – Missouri State sophomore outfielder Zack Stewart was honored as the Missouri Valley Conference Player of the Week in baseball on Monday, the first such award in the career of the 2023 MVC Freshman of the Year.
Stewart slashed .533/.611/1.200 with a 1.811 OPS in four games against teams that advanced to a Super Regional or beyond last season, logging four multi-hit efforts with an extra-base knock in each contest. He scored seven runs and drove in four on the week.
The Lebanon, Mo., native began the week by going 2-for-5 with a double, RBI and two runs scored in a victory at Oral Roberts on Tuesday.
In the weekend series at Southern Miss, Stewart slugged a solo home run in each game and collected six hits while reaching safely nine times in 13 plate appearances.
Missouri State (4-3) wraps up its season-opening eight-game road trip on Wednesday with a 4 p.m. game at Ole Miss. The Bears then open the home season March 1 at 3 p.m. against Arkansas State at Hammons Field.
