Class 2 No. 1 ranked Skyline held off upset-minded No. 6 Northwest (Hughesville) to win 50-43 in the Class 2 sectional round on Monday.
The Lady Tigers took a 16-6 lead after one quarter thanks in large part to Ashlen Garrett. She scored 15 of Skyline’s 16 points in the quarter on her way to a game-high 21 points.
Northwest was not going to go away.
Each team scored 12 points in the second quarter. Out of the half, Northwest used a 14-8 advantage to cut Skyline’s lead to four at 36-32. In the final quarter, Skyline outscored Northwest 14-11 to hold on for the win.
The Lady Tigers were strong from the free throw line going 16-for-20 in the game.
Skyline (27-2) will travel to face unranked North Platte (24-5) in the state quarterfinal round on Friday.
