The Plato softball team is looking dominate this season and they proved it on Tuesday in the District Final.
“We were the one seed, so the expectation was to win it,” said Plato Head Coach Tyler Shalbot. “I’m glad they came through. They are a great group of girls. They work hard and they deserve it.”
Now, the Eagles are headed to the State Quarterfinals for a third straight year.
“The nerves will be less than they were sophomore year,” said Plato senior Kaylee Copley. “I feel like just knowing what it feels like we will be able to display it to the team and help them along the way.”
Eagles like Kaylee Copley as well as Jadyne Curnutt are leading the way.
“Kaylee Copley is a great leader,” Shalbot said. “She is a valedictorian of the class, gets it done in the classroom, perfectionist, does an excellent job in everything she does. Jadyne Curnutt is the same way. She’s a catcher, she does a great job back there.”
It’s hard to not notice the talented duo, but what sticks out even more is the pink. Which can be seen on the field and in the stands. All for Jadyne’s mom who lost her battle with breast cancer this past summer.
“[Wearing the jerysey is] a big part of her and representing Jadyne and representing Teresa,” Kaylee said.
“Her favorite thing was to watch me play softball so I play for her,” said Plato senior Jadyne Curnutt.
Jadyne knows that her mom is watching over her and the Eagles.
“Giving my love to my mom up there watching in the clouds, just making her proud you know,” Jadyne said.
