BOYS TEAM
The West Plains boys wrestling team has 21 on the roster this season.
Colten McGuire (senior, 150), Zarian Richardson (junior, 120) and Shane Curtis (junior, 215) return for the Zizzers.
“Colten McGuire has really stood out with his off-season dedication,” West Plains head coach Raegan Fox said. “He’s trained hard all summer, building his strength and refining his skills. He’s entering his senior season with clear goals and the determination to achieve them, and it’s exciting to see his hard work pay off.”
There will be inexperience throughout the rest of the roster.
“This team’s biggest strengths are their dedication, coachability, and strong leadership,” Fox said. “Despite being young and inexperienced, they’re committed to working hard and improving every day. With leaders like Colten, Xarian, and Shane setting the tone, I’m confident that if the others stay focused and continue growing in their skills, we’ll see great progress this season.”
Fox is looking for a season of progress from the wrestlers on the roster.
“For this season to be a success, I’d like to see our young wrestlers make consistent progress, both in skill and confidence,” Fox said. “Building a strong foundation is key, so watching them develop their technique, show resilience in competition, and stay committed to improving would be major achievements. If the team can come together, support one another, and grow from each match, that would make this season a true success.”
GIRLS TEAM
The girls team has six on the roster this season.
“It’s great to have a small group of girls out,” Fox said. “Hopefully, they’ll bring strong energy and build interest for others in the future seasons.”
Madyson Melvin (senior. 110-115) and Izzy Smith (sophomore, 155) lead the returning wrestlers.
“Matte and Izzy both have worked hard in the off season,” Fox said. “We are looking forward to seeing their growth this season.”
Edie Hart is a freshman who will wrestle at 100 pounds.
“Edie Hart will have an impact,” Fox said. “She is putting in work to learn and is strong.”
“The strength of this team lies in the dedication and resilience of these athletes. Despite being a small team, these ladies have been working incredibly hard and show a relentless commitment to improving every day. They have no quit, and their determination is inspiring,” Fox said. “For this season to be a success, I’d like to see our team grow and compete strongly, especially with the girls who are dedicated and committed to this sport. Seeing them show up, give their best, and make progress each week would make this season a meaningful one for our team.”
