ST. LOUIS – Missouri State women’s basketball forward Lainie Douglas was named the Missouri Valley Conference Freshman of the Week for the second consecutive week, the league announced today (Feb. 3).
In two games on the road at Bradley and Illinois State, Douglas averaged 9.5 points and 4.0 rebounds per game. She also shot .750 (9-12) from the field and averaged 11.9 minutes per game off the bench.
The Overland Park, Kan., native turned in a career performance in Friday night’s win over Bradley with a career-high 17 points on 8-for-10 from the field in just under 15 minutes on the floor, in addition to tying her career best with three blocked shots. Fifteen of her 17 points came in the second half on a perfect 7-for-7 from the field. In Sunday’s setback at Illinois State, Douglas scored two points and pulled down five rebounds.
Douglas owns four double-figure scoring performances this season and became the eighth player to lead MoState in scoring this season. This marks her second MVC honor of the season.
The Lady Bears return home this week to host Indiana State and Evansville. First up, Missouri State will welcome the Sycamores on Friday, February 7 for a 6:30 p.m. tip. The games will stream on ESPN+.
