Marionville overcomes slow start to win first district title since 2012

Marionville overcame a slow start to come back and beat host Blue Eye 43-34 in the Class 2 District 11 championship. It is Marionville’s first district title since 2012 when the Lady Comets placed fourth at state.

Blue Eye opened up a four-point lead, 9-4, after one quarter. The middle two quarters are where Marionville went to work. The Lady Comets outscored Blue Eye 25-11 in those two frames to build a commanding 30-20 lead.

The second quarter belonged to Lanie Stokes seven of Marionville’s 11 points in the frame on her way to 15 points. In the second half, Anna Bright stepped up. She only had one point at the half. In the second half, Bright scored 18 of Marionville’s 27 points.

In all, Bright and Stokes accounted for 79% of Marionville’s scoring in the game.

Kaylee Wilson (12 points) and Emmalee Litel (11 points) led Blue Eye.

Marionville will host the winner of the Class 2 District 12 championship between Miller and Ash Grove on Tuesday in the sectional round.
