It will be a Big 8 showdown in the Class 4 District 12 championship game on Friday with No. 1 Aurora and No. 2 Mt. Vernon advancing to the Class 4 District 12 championship.
Aurora used a big second quarter to pull away for a 73-49 win over Monett. The Houn Dawgs led by three, 19-16, after one quarter. In the second quarter, Aurora exploded for 29 points building a 48-30 lead at the half. Cannon Thornhill led all scorers with 20 points for Aurora. Thomas Lara (13 points), Jayden Carpenter (11 points) and Cameron Whitener (10 points) also scored in double figures. Monett was led by Alex Meeks with 16 points.
Mt. Vernon’s Jarrett Zerby and Cassville’s Eli Stokes dueled in the second semifinal with Mt. Vernon coming out on top 72-59. Zerby scored 27 points to lead Mt. Vernon while Stokes poured in 31 points.
Aurora and Mt. Vernon will face off for the Class 4 District 12 championship at 6 pm on Friday.
