Seven starters return for Hurley softball coming off a seven-win season. That was the most wins for the program since winning 11 games in 2016. The seven wins in one season matched the total wins from the previous five season combined.
Addy Maxwell will be the pitcher in her sophomore season. Madison Conrad will catch in her senior season.
The lineup around the infield will feature Dacia Grubbs (shortstop), Jaema Schimmels (first base) and Cali Frogley (third base).
In the outfield, look for Erica Flores and Hayden Young.
This year’s team has a new head coach in Jared Ives who wants to keep the positive momentum going.
“(We want to) Continue to improve upon last season’s record and build on what was started here last season with seven wins,” Ives said. “The softball team has not had that many wins in several years since 2016.”
Ives will look for pitching and defense to be strengths while the offense catches up.
“Offensively, hitting is an area we need to focus on to be successful,” Ives said. “With a strong pitching and defensive game, we are looking at our lineup to put runs on the board.”
Hurley opens the season Mar. 24 at Sparta.
