The Art of: Slacklining

Slacklining is simple concept with complex results. String out a line. Balance. Jump. And create.

"It kind of gained popularity with rock climbers in the Yosemite Valley in the early days of climbing," Dynamic Earth's Matthias Jones said. "They needed something to do when they weren't climbing."

In Springfield you can give this a shot at Dynamic Earth.

"I decided I wanted to try it because I was in the park and had a hammock and saw other people stringing them together and slacklining and they had a bunch of food out and it looked super chill," Sam Starr, also a Dynamic Earth employee, said.

For as easy as the pros make this look, on your first time, "You probably won't even get on," Starr says.

It doesn't exactly come naturally to you. Getting good enough to just get across the line takes a ton of practice.

"For me it took a coupld of hours to get a couple steps and feel good at it," Starr said.

"I'm kind of stubborn honestly," Jones says of his decision to stick with it. "It's somethng I wanted to achieve."

If you can get it down the results are really fun. you should probably set it up low to the ground, just to be safe.

"It's a great sport for camaraderie too because you can set this up in the park and meet random people and say hey do you want to try, and they will because it looks so cool," Jones said.

Hard to argue with that. Even harder to make it across.
