Former Missouri State star Kyle Weems was back in Springfield, hosting his fourth annual basketball camp at The Courts.

Weems is fresh off signing a one-year (plus option) deal with Besiktas of the Turkish basketball league, which he called a “step-up” in his pro career. However, with the unrest erupting in Turkey, the future is somewhat uncertain, with Weems admitting the situation is “scary.”

“It’s scary,” he said. “A bunch of your friends, family, everybody’s calling you and worried about you, but it’s not something I can worry about right now. I can just control what I can control, and if it’s so dangerous where I can’t go over, I’ll move on.”

Weems said his agent will help him with his decision, and if everything goes as planned, he’ll depart Aug. 20.

Last season, Weems averaged 12.1 points per game and 3.8 rebounds per game for Strasbourg IG in French ProA.

His camp runs through Wednesday.
