Drury freshman Claire McCune and senior Cameron Byrley have been named the Great Lakes Valley Conference Runners of the Week in cross country.

McCune finished in second place overall in the Maryville Six Flags Open with a 5,000-meter time of 18:40.90. McCune was edged by nine seconds by former Maryville All-GLVC runner Elizabeth Kiblinger who ran unattached. McCune had the top finish among team runners in the event. The Panthers finished in second place in the meet.

The conference award marks the first time Drury has collected the GLVC Women’s Runner of the Week honor since Oct. 1, 2013.

Byrley has been named the Great Lakes Valley Conference Runner of the Week.

Byrley’s performance in the Maryville Six Flags Open Meet, where he finished in second place overall with an 8,000-meter time of 26:38.1, earned him the honor. Byrley finished only eight seconds behind the race’s winner, and he was the top finisher attached to a team in the event.

This is the first time Drury has collected the GLVC Men’s Runner of the Week honor in four years.

Next up for Drury Cross Country will be the D-II Conference Crossover on October 7th in Romeoville, Illinois.
