Springfield — This Saturday night, Smitty’s Mid-West Boxing Gym will present Always Ready to Rumble 5. The event will be held at the American Legion Post 639 on S. Scenic in Springfield.
Coach Darrell Smith has four area boxers competing that day, as eight states converge on Springfield.
Ranked boxers from Smitty’s gym include Willard High School’s Luis Velasquez, Central High’s Arturo Moreno and Springfield’s Alicia Acero. Hillcrest’s Randy Mast is the fourth, local boxer on the card.
Next year, the event will move up from a regional promotion to a national one with the backing of U.S.A. Boxing.
This Saturday’s card is scheduled to start at 3. Tickets are $20 and $150 for a table for eight. They can be purchased at Smitty’s Mid-West Boxing Gym at the corner of Commercial and National.
