Missouri State men's basketball head coach Paul Lusk announced Monday that freshman guard Jarred Dixon will miss the remainder of the 2015-16 season after suffering a broken bone in his hand in the final minutes of Saturday's game at Southern Illinois.
Dixon fractured the third metacarpal on his right hand and is expected to make a full recovery.
The Kansas City native was averaging 8.0 points per game overall and 9.6 points per game in Valley play this season with 17 starts and 40 steals. His 40 steals is tops among MVC freshmen this season, while ranking fifth overall in the conference at 1.3 steals per game.
He is the fourth MSU guard to miss time with injuries this season, joining returning lettermen Dorrian Williams, Austin Ruder and Shawn Roundtree, Jr. All three of those players are also out for the remainder of the season. Ruder, who started 25 games last season, has missed 25 games with a hip injury this season, Williams, a four-year starter, has missed 11 total games with separate hamstring and knee injuries, and Roundtree, who started twice last season, has been out the last 25 games with a hamstring injury.
The Bears open the MVC Tournament in St. Louis on Thursday at 8:30 p.m. against Drake at Scottrade Center.
