The Parkview Vikings put together a complete team performance on Friday night against the visiting Camdenton Lakers opening up the conference slate of games with a 73-40 victory. Parkview controlled the tempo of the game and did several things to limit offensive opportunities for the Lakers.
Parkview executed their game plan effectively as they hit a high percentage of their shots, rebounded, defended, and didn’t turn the ball over.
The only time the Vikings trailed was in the first minute of the game. Down 3-2, they went on a 24-4 run the rest of the quarter. The offense was keyed by senior Jordan Bollenbach. He either scored or assisted on the Vikings first 14 points of the game.
Parkview head coach Landon Cornish had praise for all of his player’s efforts throughout the game, but noted Bollenbach’s contributions. “Jordan played really big for us tonight,” said Cornish. Bollenbach scored 12 points and had four assists on the night.
A trio of Vikings scored in double figures led by Camron Satterfield’s 17 points.
It was difficult for the Lakers to do much else but cast off shots from outside the three-point arc due to the Vikings height advantage. Five of their first six field goals made were of the three point variety. Even so, they could get no closer than 16 points in the second quarter.
Whenever Camdenton did miss their field goal attempts, Parkview blocked out on the interior and limited the Lakers to only one shot opportunity—or less if they forced a Lakers turnover. Garrett Cunningham was able to flex his muscles for the Vikings and use his solid 6’6” frame to corral 9 rebounds. He also made several short jumpers and scored 15 points.
Parkview (5-7, 1-0) used their match-up zone to pressure the perimeter play for the Lakers and collapsed on drives to the basket. Bollenbach notched five steals in the game and often converted on the Camdenton turnovers.
And speaking of turnovers, Camdenton turned the ball over 14 times while Parkview committed only two and one of those was in the final few minutes of the game during the turbo clock.
The Lakers were led in scoring and rebounding by Braden Demark with 14 points and six rebounds.
Parkview will next hit the hardwood in the Sedalia Smith-Cotton Tournament on Thursday, January 14; Camdenton will host the Glendale Falcons on January 12.
