Evangel women's basketball was held to just eight made field goals in a 44-36 loss at William Penn on Saturday in Oskaloosa, Iowa.

The Crusaders made only 8 of 51 shots while going 1 for 14 from three-point range. Their 16 percent shooting from the field and eight made shots were season lows while the 36 points scored matched a season low luthat came last Saturday at Benedictine.

Despite the cold shooting, Evangel was never out of the game as they pulled within five points of the lead midway through the third quarter and William Penn's largest lead was 14.

William Penn led 29-20 at halftime and held the Crusaders to 16 points in the second half.

"We missed some open shots but we've also got to run better offense," said Evangel head coach Leon Neal. "I thought our defense was good enough to keep us in the game. We just need to execute better."

Alison Jarrell led all scorers with 12 points for Evangel. Allison Swanson had 11 points and a season high 18 rebounds. No William Penn player scored in double-figures.

Evangel fell to 4-8 and 3-4 in the Heart of America conference. William Penn improved to 7-7 and 4-3 in the league.

The Crusaders return home to face Peru State on Monday for a 5:30 p.m. game at the Ashcroft Center.
