Coaching legend Rod Gorman enters his second season at Houston coming off of a five-win season in his first year. The Tigers lost Lucas Kelley, Cameron Root, Taylor Ward and Riley Cavenness graduated from that team.

Gorman is expecting a stronger season for his team in Year Two.

“This is our second year in rebuilding this program,” Gorman said. “We have progressed nicely and very excited about watching the growth of this team”

The Tigers do return a strong group of players with varsity experience

“Our strengths will be our varsity experience over depth in our program,” Gorman said.

Seniors Tyler McCloud and Michael Clayton along with junior Paydon Dixon along with the sophomore trio of Kyler Ramsey, Isiah Buse and Clayton Moore all return this year. That group averaged between two and six points per game last year.

There will be a host of new players for Gorman to work with as well. Senior Joe Brown, junior CJ Lee and sophomore Jaekan Moss will all step up to varsity from junior varsity.

Houston also adds three transfers in Mike Zamarron and Nick Zamarron from Houston (Tex.) and senior Christian Heathington from Couch.

All of these pieces have Gorman raising expectations for this season.

“Expectations are much higher this year. We feel like we can compete with the chance to win most nights,” Gorman said.

Houston opens the season on Nov. 21 at home against Cuba.
