C of O women sweep the series against Evangel in the Highway 65 Shootout. While the men split the series, beating C of O 77-62 on Tuesday night.
Women’s game:
The Evangel women’s basketball team fell Tuesday night to College of the Ozarks, 68-48, in its second matchup against the Lady Bobcats this season.
The Lady Bobcats took an early 10 point lead after the first quarter and never looked back. Relying on its defense, which forced 17 Evangel turnovers, and held the Crusaders to just 29 percent shooting for the game.
College of the Ozarks’ Cassidy Johnson led both teams in scoring with 18 points, knocking down four three-pointers in the effort. Kelsie Cleeton collected a double-double, finishing with 10 points and 14 rebounds.
Evangel’s Sydnee Garrett scored 17 points, while Randi Hancock added 10 points. Hancock went eight for eight at the free throw line and remains perfect for the season.
The game also helped raise money in partnership with Evangel athletics and Weller Elementary. Over $900 was raised on the evening that will go toward purchasing winter clothing for students at Weller Elementary.
The Crusaders wrap up its final homestand of 2017, on Saturday as they host conference opponent, William Penn. Tipoff from the Ashcroft Center is scheduled for 2 p.m.
