For his efforts in two Bears’ victories last week, Missouri State senior Alize Johnson (F, Williamsport, Pa.) was named Missouri Valley Conference Player of the Week today, the league announced.

Johnson posted a pair of double-doubles as part of a 2-0 week for the Bears, leading MSU in scoring and rebounding twice and posting a season-high in scoring in the Valley opener.

In MSU’s 66-50 victory over Wright State in the non-conference finale, he logged 12 points and 14 rebounds with a game-high 4 assists.

He followed that effort with a game-high – and personal season-best — 24 points in MSU’s victory over Loyola in the MVC opener. He also tallied a game-high 11 rebounds behind a career-best five 3-pointers (5-for-10 from 3-point range).

For the week, he averaged 18.0 points, 12.5 rebounds and 3.0 assists, making 41.7 percent of his 3-point attempts.

It is Johnson’s third career MVC Player of the Week honor, winning the distinction twice last season – Nov. 14, 2016 and Jan. 2, 2017.

He and the Bears (11-3, 1-0 MVC) resume play Sunday at Valparaiso (9-4, 0-0) at 3 p.m. MSU returns home to JQH Arena to play Northern Iowa on Thursday, Jan. 4 at 8 p.m. for a nationally-televised game against the Panthers.

The $5 bleacher seat deal will once again be available for the UNI game.

Tickets for the UNI game are on sale now at MissouriStateBears.com or at the Old Missouri Bank Box Office at JQH Arena — (417) 836-7678 – during regular box office hours.
