Lady Panthers tennis advances to Sweet 16

SPRINGFIELD, Mo. – The Drury women’s tennis team advanced to the NCAA-II round of 16 with a 5-1 win over Indianapolis in the second round of the Midwest Regional tournament on Sunday at Cooper Tennis Complex in Springfield, Missouri.

The Panthers, seeded first and ranked 14th nationally, improved to 19-1 while fifth seeded UINDY ended their season with a 16-7 record.

Drury won two of the three doubles matches and narrowly missed sweeping all three. Drury’s tandem of Josephine Jedrychowski and Viktoriya Zheleva were edged out 8-5 by Paige Olsen and Dana Olsen for the Panthers only doubles loss. Julia Schepp and Larissa Karl picked up an 8-0 win for Drury and the duo of Chung-Yen Huang and JiaQing Mo earned an 8-4 victory.

Mo and Schepp both picked up a quick singles wins for Drury with 6-1, 6-2 victories over Pam Brito Torres and Dana Olsen to get the Panthers within a point of the win.  Jedrychowski also posted a 6-1, 6-2 win to clinch the win for Drury as she prevailed over Mara Hofstetter.

The Panthers will advance to the round of 16 on May 9-12 in Surprise, Arizona, the final site of the NCAA-II national championship matches.
