In life there are a few things you can count on; weekly Boot Camp is one of them.
“Snow, Ice, rain, tornadoes… We’ve been out here for everything,” said boot camp leader Sean Litzenberger. The former US Navy rescue swimmer founded this group workout on resilience.
“I always joke with people here in Springfield that if If me and my family can handle the snow and ice and we came from San Diego, California, then if anybody should be able to handle it and be used to it it should be people here in Springfield,” Litzenberger said.
Through sheer determination this Boot Camp in the park has been running for 183 straight weeks — with absolutely nothing breaking the streak.
“About seven weeks ago now, I dropped my wife off at the hospital to be induced. Then I took the equipment over to the park to conduct group work out,“ said Litzenberger.
Now, the newborn baby joins the family work out from the driveway, as the Coronavirus forces things to continue online.
“183 weeks, we’re not going to let that streak get snapped just because of a little sickness,“ Litzenberger said.
The motivation isn’t monetary. These workouts are completely free as part of his nonprofit, delirious life, focused on improving lives in the community.
“The goal is just to continue to influence people to live a happy healthy lifestyle,” Litzenberger said.
These workouts are for all ages and abilities. Even his neighbor Norman got in on the action.
“I couldn’t quite do everything, but I did a lot,” said neighbor Norman Hines. “I’ve got stretch bands, I’ve got weights at home. I’ll bring my weights next time.”
Norm will be back as the streak continues to week 184, and he’s putting the pressure on others to do the same. Because no matter how much you’re capable of doing, you’re still lapping everyone on the couch.
