CANTON, Mo. – Evangel University volleyball head coach Mary Whitehead earned career win number 400 as the Crusaders held off Culver-Stockton for a 3-2 win Saturday in conference action.
Whitehead who is already the program's all-time wins leader is the third active Heart of America Conference coach to win 400 games. She also ranks 13th nationally among active NAIA head coaches for most wins.
Evangel took an early 2-0 lead in Saturday's match before the Wildcats rallied with back-to-back wins to force a fifth set. However, the Crusaders were led by Jackie Fugate who posted a match-high 19 kills and a .395 hitting percentage helping give Evangel a 3-2 win.
Both setters again finished with 20 or more assists as Jorden Stacey tallied 23 assists and 10 digs to earn a double-double. Brianna Justis added 24 assists and five digs.
Culver-Stockton was led by Madeleine Halford who finished with 17 kills and five blocks.

– Head Coach Mary Whitehead won her 400th game with Evangel. Whitehead is in her 17th season as the Crusaders coach and ranks as the program's all-time winningest coach.
– Fugate was the only Crusader to post double-figure kills in the win. It was the second most kills this season for Fugate.
– The Crusaders committed a season-high 27 hitting errors on offense. The previous high for Evangel was 25 on three different occasions this season.
