Monett senior Kaesha George won a state championship in softball, and wound up 6th on the school’s scoring list in basketball, but her best sport is in the spring.
“My mom was like well you played softball so you might as well pick it up and try it,“ George said.
Javelin was a new track event Kaesha George’s freshman year, and the All-State softball player thought she’d give it a go.
“At first I got really mad, I didn’t do very good. I think my first meet I threw like 67 feet or something like that,“ said George.
But as the season went on, Kaesha became the number one thrower in the state, and took home a third-place medal her freshman year. But again, she wasn’t satisfied.
“I was really upset about that, so my sophomore year I worked really hard and I was like I really wanna win, George said. “It was good thing third, but I just really wanted to be at the top of the podium.“
By the end of her sophomore year, Kaesha was a state champion.
“When I won that first one it was really special, because it wasn’t really like anything I was expecting, I kind of just picked up something new,“ George said.
One gold medal turned to two when Kaesha set a new state record with a throw of 151.6 her junior year.
“This season I definitely wanted to hit the 160 to 170 mark that was definitely something, and to get a third state championship for sure,“ said George.
Kaesha won’t get a shot and a third gold medal, but she’s excited to continue competing at the Division-I level with the Missouri Tigers.
“I’m just most excited to be around really good athletes, so to just to be around them and have them kind of rub off on me a little bit I’m really excited for that,“ George said.
If her collegiate career is anything like her career at Monett, we can expect her back on top of the podium in no time.
