Summit Prep’s Claire Workman is used to finishing first.
After signing with Oklahoma State, the distance running star can add another first to her resume: First Summit Prep athlete to sign with a college for an athletic scholarship.
“It is exciting. Nobody else has done it before, so on the list of our school history I get to be the first person to sign,” Workman said.
Workman, who will look to major in a field related to biology, enjoyed everything about her trip visits to Oklahoma State.
“I knew they had a really good team and academically they had everything I was looking for,” Workman said. “When I went and visited they had a very friendly team and staff and seemed very capable. I am excited to be a part of that.”

Workman won the Class 1 State Cross Country title this past weekend in Jefferson City, and Summit Prep/New Covenant claimed the program’s first team cross country title as well.
In her career she has 18 all-state finishes across three sports to go with 14 gold medals. Her teams have won a track and cross country title each on the way to six total team trophies.
All of that success won’t be guaranteed as Workman moves up to the Big 12 next year.
“(I will) probably need a fairly sizable improvement. I feel like I am definitely up for it,” Workman said. “I have a long ways to go. I am fairly young and inexperienced still.”
