Laquey girls’ basketball will be a young team this year looking to bounce back from a 4-19 season last year with new head coach Michael Parten taking over.
Senior forward Briar Sayer and sophomore forward Aurora Rice will be team leaders this year.
“(Sayer) is always in the gym trying to improve and is tough to guard in the post,” Parten said. “(Rice’s) energy is contagious the whole team feeds off of her.”

In addition, senior Acacia Rice returns after seeing varsity action last ear.
Sophomore Angel Geuhrer and junior Emmalle Ackley will look to make the jump from junior varsity to varsity this year. The freshman class is deep with Alexis Shelton, Hannah Thier, Adrienne Miller, Brooke Fowers and Alania Lord all looking to compete for varsity time this year.
“We are a young team that is pretty athletic. I think our defense will be our best aspect,” Parten said. “The girls seem to be buying in and we are looking to work hard to improve on what has been several down years here.”
Laquey opens the season Nov. 28 through Dec. 5 at the Frisco League Tournament.
