The Thomas Jefferson girls basketball team improved from no wins two years ago to six wins last year. The Lady Cavaliers will look to keep that momentum up this year and secure the program’s first double-digit win season in more than a decade.

Leading the charge will be three returning starters.

“Seniors Sonia Carlson and Sydney Stamps along with junior Alivia Beard are the returning impact players who were starters last year,” Thomas Jefferson head coach Dan Rogers said. “All three will contribute to our success at both ends of the floor with their hard work and leadership.”

Stamps was a second-team all-conference player last year. She averaged 10 points, 8 rebounds and 2 steals per game. Beard averaged 8 points and 4 steals per game. Carlson pulled down 4 rebounds per game and scored 4 points per game.

Sophomores Nicco Carlson and Tannah Grigg along with freshman Gabbi Heibert have shown off-season improvement.

“They have spent time in the gym to better their basketball skills. All three will have a direct impact on our success,” Rogers said.

Sarah Mueller (freshman), Kaylee Ball (senior) and Alexis Stamps (freshman) are new players to watch this year.

“All three have skills, energy, and enthusiasm to quickly contribute this season,” Rogers said.

Thomas Jefferson opens the season on Nov. 24 at Bronaugh.

“We try to always play hard, compete, and excel on the defensive end,” Rogers said. “We will have some concerns scoring early, but once we get further into the season that should improve.”
