The Richland girls are 14-3 right now this season, thanks in part to senior Katelyn Cole.

“I’ve played travel ball all year, played basketball all year round, I’ve learned a lot from my competitors that made me better my teammates along the way,” Cole said.

“She’s done a lot for us. She’s one that can create off the dribble and not only create like I said for herself, but also her teammates to set her teammates up,” said Lady Bears head coach Nancy Ward.

Cole is nearing 1,500 career points but also leads the team in assists.

“She’s just so such a creative player and can finish, and you know that imagination had really benefited her. You know you can try to teach it but that creativity to experiment on on our own on some of those moves and things and not be afraid to fail sometimes, you know is what makes her great,” Ward said.

She has learned from some really special people.

“My dad, my mom, a little sister has helped me family everybody really,” said Cole.

But some stuff you just can’t teach, and when Katelyn is on —

“It’s like walking on air, it’s like, easy,” Cole said.

“Some of the passes she makes just incredible leads us in assists. So, just one of those players that you don’t get very often,” said Ward.
