Bolivar, Mo- The SBU women’s Basketball traveled to Illinois-Springfield to take on the Prairie Stars this evening. The Bearcats won the defensive battle 52-51 giving Head Coach Kelsey Keizer her 100th career win! That win moves the Bearcats to 14-11 (9-8 GLVC) and currently tied for 8th in the GLVC PRS standings.
“I feel so blessed to have led so many great teams at SBU and this one was a very fun way to hit the 100-win milestone. And a special shout out to Coach Duke’s for being on the bench with me for all 100 of these!”-Keizer
The Bearcats started out slow and trailed early in the game but went on a 10-0 run to end the first half with a 26-23 lead. The game kept being a defensive battle in the second half; the Bearcats held the Prairie Stars to 35.7% from the field and 18.2% from three.
“This team is really buying into defensive intensity, and it is showing. I loved how hard we worked all night to keep Illinois-Springfield out of a rhythm offensively.”
Senior Kyleigh Vaught led the way for the Bearcats with 21 points, shooting 70% from the field. The Bearcats were also perfect from the free throw line going 12-12.
“Kyleigh Vaught made some special plays down the stretch for our team including on the defensive end. The game winning basket was the exclamation point to a great night and a big road victory for our team”
“So proud of the team for this gritty win. Neither team shot the ball particularly well, but we ended up pulling out this tough one on the road with made free throws and an amazing effort by our senior leader Kyleigh Vaught.”
The Bearcats will be back in action this Saturday as they finish off their road trip against Lewis University. Tip-off is scheduled for 1:00 PM.
